7 Ways to Promote Blog Posts for Increased Pageviews

More pageviews...more eyes on your content….more email subscribers...more clients….more money. That’s generally how it works. So if you want the pageviews - start with these seven ways to promote blog posts.

Plan on doing as many of these things immediately following hitting publish on your latest blog post.

Part of why you do this is to leverage the multiple audiences that you have on various platforms. Because we know that different people will hang out on different platforms. Additionally, when you make a big effort to promote your blog content on these platforms - it helps give your post a boost in search engine optimization. Google will see that the link to this post is being shared and distributed on multiple platforms which in turn gives Google the alert that this content must be important.

Beyond simply getting the word out there - this strategy of promoting your blog posts will do more for your evergreen content in the long run.

1. Email

Every time you publish a new blog post you should be sending out a short and sweet email with a little teaser to the post.

It’s SO easy to get stuck in the thinking that we need to go out and get new subscribers and add more people to our community. But what we end up doing is missing out on a big opportunity to continue to build a relationship with your WARM audience.

Remember that your email subscribers already chose you along the way at some point. Something you shared, said, or did prompted them to subscribe to your email list and they’re committed.

Don’t take that for granted.

Email is still the number one marketing tool used for businesses.

It doesn’t have to be complicated, even. Keep it short and sweet. Give readers a few takeaways from your blog post before prompting them to check it out on your site for themselves.

2. Pinterest

Pinterest is one of the top three most used search engines. Many mistake it for a social media platform, but in reality - it is a search engine.

What do people use search engines for?

To find ideas, to solve problems, to answer questions.

You should be developing your content in a way that solves a problem for your readers. You may not be doing this intentionally, but it’s important to make sure that your content serves your readers. I always make sure I know what problem I’m solving with my content.

Once you’ve published your blog post, create 3-6 pin images for that piece of content and publish them to the most relevant boards.

You can (and should) also create a few idea pin slides to publish on Pinterest, too. Pinterest released Idea Pins in 2021 to all Pinterest creators as a way to give users a more interactive on app experience. Idea Pins provide inspiration and ideas for users to implement right away. And the best part is, Pinterest is favoring Idea Pins in the algorithm right now so it’s a great way to boost visibility!

3. Facebook

Immediately after you hit publish, schedule a post with a snippet and a link directly to your blog post to go to your Facebook page.

Schedule a few more posts with information from your blog post to go out over the next several days - making sure to link back to your blog with them.

Readers may not see your first post, so it's definitely okay to be a little redundant - actually, it’s preferred if you are! The rule of 7 says that your audience has to see your message at least 7 times before taking action. So while you may feel like you’re a broken record - think of it like this, you’re just making it easier for your readers to access the valuable and HELPFUL content you’ve just published.

4. Facebook Groups

The next place to promote your blog content is in Facebook groups. This starts with your very own Facebook group (if you have one, of course). Share your new blog post link and snippet of text, just like you did on your Facebook page (it’s okay, remember the rule of seven?). Repurpose the content from the blog post into different smaller educational posts in your Facebook. I like to do this a few different ways. The first way is to create a quick list highlighting the main points of the post. Next, I will pull subheadings and dedicate short posts with easily tangible information to each one. Once you get started, you’ll see how quickly one blog post can yield multiple Facebook posts.

5. Instagram Feed Post

Create an Instagram post to push out right after you hit publish. It can be a simple static post. You can focus on repurposing the blog post into different types of Instagram posts (IGTV, Reels, Carousels, Videos) in the coming days. If you’re interested in repurposing your blog content then check out this blog post.

Instagram allows links in your bio, and I highly recommend having a link menu where you can feature each new blog post. This makes it easily accessible for your readers to find and read your new content.

6. Instagram Stories

If you have the swipe up feature, this is a great place to include a link directly to your blog post. If you don’t have the swipe up feature - it’s coming soon! Instagram is releasing a new sticker feature to allow for link sharing in stories. However, until you get access to it - direct your followers to find your blog post linked in the menu in your bio.

7. Twitter

Twitter is a surprisingly great tool for promoting your blog content. You can easily pull out snippets of the blog post and publish them in multiple Twitter posts. Shorten the link to your blog url using the bit.ly or another link shortening app.

3 Super Easy Strategies for Promoting Blog Content

In case you’re in for more, those aren’t the only ways you can promote your blog posts. There are several more strategies for promoting blog posts, but here are three good (and easy) strategies for getting more visibility on your blog posts.

Social Sharing Buttons

Social sharing buttons are one of the easiest ways to promote your blog content beyond your own social media. These social sharing buttons will encourage your readers to share content they love to their friends and followers on social media.

But you don’t have to just put them on your blog and ignore them. Tell your readers what you want them to do! Include a call to action that tells your readers to share the post if they love what they read.

Reddit & Quora

Reddit & Quora are both online forum websites where users can ask questions and get answers to their search queries. They’re great places to promote your blog content. Especially those that solve a specific problem. When you go to Reddit or Quora, search the keyword that relates to your content and read through the posts to decide which one you can provide the best answer for.

Blog Sharing Groups

There are several Facebook groups that have blog sharing opportunities. In these groups you will drop the link to your blog post URL and other members of the group will visit your blog and leave a comment or Pin your post to Pinterest. These groups are a great tool to get more readers and engagement on your posts, especially when you do it in conjunction with the other promotion tasks. One thing to be aware of, though, is a lot of the groups you can share in will require you to reciprocate by clicking on another link and leaving a comment on the blog post.

How Can I Increase my Blog Visibility?

Increasing your blog visibility starts with consistency.

Bloggers who commit to consistent posting (whether it’s weekly, bi-weekly or multiple times a week) will see better results, faster than those bloggers who are inconsistently posting (even if one week they publish 4 posts and don’t post again for a few weeks).

Creating content consistently promotes your credibility as an authority in your space. When your readers know when to expect your content, trust begins to form. And trust between a content creator and a reader is SO valuable.

How Can I Promote my Blog Posts for Free?

You can absolutely promote your blog for free. While you may think that the only way to get people to read your content is through running ads to your site - that’s actually probably one of the harder ways to get traffic to your site.

Instead, focus on leveraging your audiences on multiple platforms first. It’s definitely easy to forget that we have generally warm audiences that are ready to consume whatever content we publish.

Here’s the thing, don’t overcomplicate it. Do what you can do. From my own experience, when I try to do *all the things* I end up getting burnt out and not showing up consistently.
